A Beginner’s Guide to Guided Meditation
Guided meditation can feel like such a curious mystery if you’ve never tried it. What actually happens in a session? Will you have to sit still for 30 minutes? What if your mind can’t be quiet?
The truth is, guided meditation isn’t about being perfectly still or forcing our minds into silence. It’s just about being present, and it’s more accessible and doable than you think.
At my vitae, we offer guided meditation as one of the many ways to slow down and reconnect with yourself, your breath, and your body. Whether you’re looking for more clarity, emotional grounding, or just a moment to pause, meditation can meet you right where you are with no previous experience needed.
What Is Guided Meditation?
Guided meditation is a form of meditation where a trained facilitator leads you through the experience. Instead of trying to clear your mind or “figure it out” on your own, you’re gently guided with voice, visualization, reathing, and body awareness to help you settle.
Each session is shaped with intention, and depending on the facilitator (and your needs), it might include:
Breath awareness or gentle breathwork
Visualization or mental imagery
Body scanning (noticing tension or sensation)
Mindfulness and present-moment practices
Soothing prompts for self-reflection or relaxation
Think of it less like a lesson and more like being walked through a process, one where you can follow at your own pace and don’t have to remember steps.
What Happens in a Guided Meditation Session?
Sessions typically happen in a calm, quiet space. You’ll be invited to sit or lie down, whatever feels best, and settle into the moment with a few minutes of soft arrival.
From there, your facilitator will begin to guide you. The style may vary, but there’s always a thread of care, presence, and spaciousness. Silence may come and go. You’re never expected to “do it right,” just to notice what you feel.
Some sessions focus on calming the nervous system while others might support clarity, emotional release, or grounding. You don’t have to come with a specific intention but if you have one, it’s always welcome.
Do I Need Experience to Do Meditation Sessions?
Absolutely not. Guided meditation is beginner-friendly by nature. There’s no right way to sit, no special words to know, and no need to “quiet your mind.” If your thoughts wander, that’s part of the practice. The key is noticing and gently returning.
Whether you're a first-timer or returning after a break, guided meditation at my vitae is designed to feel soft, supportive, and accessible.
Where Can I Meditate at my vitae?
Guided group sessions are often offered by trained practitioners on our events calendar. You may also find meditation woven into other offerings like breathwork, sound bowl healing, and movement classes, where presence is part of the rhythm.
Looking for a quieter, self-led space to meditate on your own? You’re welcome to book the Prana Salt Room, our private salt therapy room, as a meditative sanctuary. Many clients use this serene space for personal reflection, breath awareness, or simply to rest with intention.
Why Try Meditation Now?
Because life doesn’t slow down on its own.
As the season shifts and routines fill up again, it’s easy to lose your inner calm. Guided meditation gives you a way back to yourself, even with just a few moments to remember your breath, settle your system, and return to your centre.
If you’re feeling scattered, anxious, or just curious, give it a try.
